Benburb FC 2-6 Yoker Athletic FC
Yoker made it two victories out of three games in a good start to the league campaign.
Yoker came to Tinto Park expecting the usual tough game from the Bens. However the Whe-Ho seemed to have a mission on their hands and stormed into a three goal lead within the first 15 minutes.
The first came from a penalty after the Bens defender handled in the box and the returning James McLernon netted from the spot after just 8 minutes. The second came from on fire Alistair Murray when he fired an unstoppable shot high into Mark Quinn's top corner.
Yoker's were awarded another penalty in 15 minutes when Gary Bissland was brought down in the box. It was Ross Mathew who volunteered to take this one but the keeper made a fine save. The rebound was converted however by Jamie Carson to score his first of the season. The Bens defence were furious with the referee as they felt that Ross Mathew had impeded the keeper when Carson scored.
As expected Frank Lovering's team were in no mood to give up and a cross was beautifully met by Stevie Waddell sending it past the Whe Ho keeper to make it 1-3.
Five minutes later Yoker gave away a needless penalty when Craig Dewar fouled in the box. It was Stevie Waddell who converted from the spot reducing the deficit to one.
The Whe Ho were in no mood to surrender a three goal lead so easily and continued to attach. A fine cross from jamie Carson was met by Bissland at the back post and it appeared to be over the line before it was knocked out. Yoker defender Neil Schoneville was on hand however to make sure this time when he bundled the ball past the Bens defence to make it 4-2 to Yoker on the 30 minute mark.
Half Time Benburb FC 2-4 Yoker Athletic
John Brogan was forced to make changes at half time with Andy Reilly replacing the injured Mathew and he also brought on Richard Smith for Craig Dewar.
Both teams continued to make chances but it was Mark McManus who restored the three goal lead after his shot was deflected off a Bens defender into the back of the net.
On the 60 minute mark, man of the match Alistair Murray rose above the Bens defence to nod home his second of the day.
John Brogan was delighted with the result and he knows not many teams will take points away from Tinto Park this season.
Yoker will now play Lesmahagow Juniors at home on Saturday which will be a real test against a Gow side that demolished Newmains 7-1 at the weekend.
