Yoker Athletic 6-1 Forth Wanderers

Whe Ho skipper Leonard Marshall signed off with a bang after announcing he was retiring from the club after seven years due to family commitments. Yoker showed some of their early season form with a six goal romp against Forth Wanderers and even had the luxury of having a penalty saved. The home side were up for this game from the start and made their intentions clear when Gary Bissland headed home in four minutes from a Carson cross. Yoker continued to press forward and it was Carson himself this time that drove home from 25 yards giving the keeper no chance. Forth did not make many chances but had their best chance of the match when they had a long range shot superbly saved by keeper McGinty. The Whe Ho seemed to be relaxed and were playing some of their best football in weeks.

Half Time Yoker 2-0 Forth Wanderers

The men in blue started the second half as they had the first and it was James Strain who volleyed past the keeper to make it three just after the interval. Ten minutes later Yoker's pressure paid off again when Strain was pulled down in the box for a penalty. It was skipper Marshall who was given the ball in his last game but his effort was well saved by the Forth keeper. Wanderers seemed to take heart from this and in there first attack of the second half scored what was to be there only goal of the match. With half an hour to go it was Bissland who put the game to bed with a fine header which gave the keeper no chance. The rout continued ten minutes later when sweeper Ross Mathew  drove low past the keeper after the Forth defence tried to clear. With fifteen minutes to go it was Euan Nicolson's speculative shot from thirty yards which found the net after the keeper failed to hold the ball. Ironically this was Yoker's highest win of the season and boss John Brogan must have wondered why they couldn't turn in these performance's when it mattered. This was Yoker,s last game of the season and it was a case of what might have been as promotion was lost in a four week spell losing to teams they should have comfortably beat.

Yoker will now regroup for next season with only promotion in mind.
