We play our home games at Holm Park in Yoker which is situated in the town of Clydebank, near the border with Glasgow.

JOHN Brogan offered up no excuses for his side’s failings as Yoker Athletic slumped into the bottom tier of the Junior game.

A final day defeat to the Vale of Leven left the Wheho perilously close to the drop zone and a subsequent win for the Vale in their last match saw Yoker replace them in the bottom three.

Brogan, who took over the Holm Park helm last Summer after spells in charge of Arbroath and East Kilbride Thistle, admits their last performance of the season was hard to take. “It was the worst day in my footballing life when the Vale beat us and I have had a long career,” he said.

“But they deserved to stay up as they went out to win the game. If we had beaten them we would have stayed up, but we were not good enough.

“I am disappointed, we didn’t deserve to stay up because, when it comes down to it, we didn’t play well. I am not going to start making excuses about it.

“When we arrived at the club, a lot of people had left, I’d never seen such a mass exodus and I found that strange.

“I can’t fault the players for effort and turning up at training, but we were a bit naive about our defending and we struggled to get goals.”

Massive rebuilding is required, with Wheho stalwart Scott Cameron retiring, while Kenny Meechan, the club’s only keeper, left by mutual consent last month. And as the manager prepares to shape his squad for next season, he expects others to follow suit.

Brogan added: “Scott [Cameron] has been a great servant to Yoker and it is a big hole to fill. He was great in the dressing room and I’m sure he is hurting at being relegated in his last season.

“We’ve been here before with East Kilbride. We cleared out the deadwood and came back stronger.

“We need to freshen things up as we can’t get caught short at the start. We have to go straight back up, nothing less.”
